General Usage - Certain factors in the use of lifting chain and attachments can be abusive and reduce the load that the chain or attachments can support. Some examples are twisting the chain, jerking the load, excessive load, going around sharp corners, excessive sling to load angle and unbalanced loading. When using a choker hitch, the Working Load Limit must reduced by 20%. We recommend a minimum angle of choke of 120 degrees. When using chain shorteners, or slings with adjusters at the masterlink, a 20% reduction of the Working Load Limit is required, except when using cradle grab hooks, or Crosby EliminatorTM masterlinks. Normal operating temperature is -40°F to 400°F (-40°C to 204°C). When used outside of these temperatures, consult the manufacturer. Chemically active environments such as acids or corrosive liquids or fumes can reduce the performance of the chain. Surface coating, plating or galvanizing should not be performed on lifting chain. If chain is exposed to chemically active environment, remove from service. The above is not a comprehensive overview of usage information. The user should familiarize himself with all applicable goverment and industry standards including OSHA 1910.184 and ASME B30.9. |
